What should I give my baby to drink?

Breast milk contains all the water that a baby needs, so you won’t need to provide extra drinks until you start weaning your baby. Bottle-fed babies may need a little water, especially in hot weather. Water is the best form of hydration, but once weaning has begun, drinks like Heinz Baby Juices provide additional variety and Vitamin C.

While we don’t add any sugar to our juices, they contain naturally occurring fruit sugars. To avoid the risk of tooth decay, always follow these golden rules:

  • Give babies juices from a beaker, trainer cup or spoon, but not from a bottle
  • Don’t give juices as a night-time drink
  • Never leave your baby alone with a drink
  • Never use drinks on a dummy

I thought babies weren’t supposed to be given cow’s milk, so why do you use it as an ingredient?
You shouldn’t use cow’s milk before 12 months as your baby’s main milk drink because it doesn’t contain the correct balance of nutrients, but small amounts of milk, cheese and yogurt can be used in cooking and are a good addition to a healthy diet once your baby is being weaned as they contain lots of protein and calcium.
