You’re really going places nowNow your baby’s older and you’ve got the hang of things, you’re ready to get out and about more. Travelling with your baby can be great fun, as long as you’re prepared.
Think aheadMost restaurants have high chairs and some even offer baby foods, but it’s always a good idea to phone ahead to check. If they don’t, they are usually happy for you to take your own. Most places will agree to warm milk or baby food, though you must always check the temperature yourself. It’s not a good idea to start introducing new tastes when you’re out and about, so take food with you that you know your baby likes.
From about 6 months onwards, finger foods can be the ideal way to keep baby happy on short trips out. Farley’s Bear biscuits or Mini Rusks are simple to pack and easy to eat, or you could pack a small bag of peeled soft fruit. What’s more, finger foods give babies good practice at feeding themselves. Although do remember babies will be ready for finger foods at different times.
Take care with milkDon’t try to keep warm, prepared feeds in a flask or in an insulated cover as they could easily upset your baby’s tummy and even cause infection. It’s not essential to warm milk or baby food as it can be fed without reheating. You can warm up feeds quickly and easily if you take a flask of hot water and a plastic bowl with you. When you’re ready to use the baby food or milk, just place it in the hot water to warm it through.
